Privacy Policy

AskWingman (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is an ephemeral peer-feedback dating advice app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use the AskWingman mobile application (“App”).

By using AskWingman, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

1. Account Information

When you create an AskWingman account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Password (stored securely using industry-standard hashing)
  • Google account information if you choose to sign in with Google (name, email, profile picture)

You may also use the App as a guest without creating an account. Guest accounts do not require any personal information.

2. Profile Information

To personalize your experience, you may provide:

  • Username (pseudonymous, auto-generated if not provided)
  • Display name
  • Bio/description
  • Date of birth (used solely for age verification. You must be 18 or older to use AskWingman)
  • Gender identity (woman, man, other, or prefer not to say)
  • Profile picture
  • Notification preferences

3. User-Generated Content

AskWingman is built around ephemeral content. When you use the App, you may create:

  • Posts (text and up to 4 images). These automatically expire and are permanently deleted after 24 hours
  • Comments and replies. Deleted when the parent post expires
  • Votes (upvotes/downvotes). Deleted when the related content expires

Posts are organized into categories such as approaching, texting, first date, profile review, relationship advice, and general discussion.

4. Moderation Data

To maintain a safe community, we collect:

  • Block records (when you block another user, including optional reason)
  • Reports (reason, description, and status of reports you file about users, posts, or comments)

5. Device and Session Information

When you use the App, we automatically collect:

  • Push notification tokens (to send you notifications about replies, reactions, and mentions)
  • Device platform (iOS or Android)
  • IP address (stored with your session for security purposes)
  • User agent string
  • Session tokens and expiration data

WHAT WE DO NOT COLLECT. AskWingman does not collect or access:

  • Location or GPS data
  • Contacts or address book
  • Phone number, call logs, or SMS messages
  • Audio or video recordings
  • Biometric data
  • Financial or payment information
  • Medical or health data
  • Browsing history outside the App

How We Use Your Information

Provide and maintain the service:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Display your posts, comments, and profile to other users
  • Deliver push notifications about replies, reactions, and mentions
  • Automatically clean up expired ephemeral content after 24 hours

Age verification: We use your date of birth to verify that you are at least 18 years old, as required by our terms of service.

Community safety and moderation:

  • Process user reports of harassment, spam, inappropriate content, and safety concerns
  • Enforce blocks between users
  • Prevent abuse and enforce community guidelines

Communication:

  • Send transactional emails (account verification, password resets)
  • Deliver push notifications based on your preferences

Advertising: We display non-personalized advertisements through Google AdMob. These ads are not targeted based on your personal data or browsing behavior.

Third-Party Services

We work with trusted third-party service providers to operate AskWingman. These providers only have access to the information necessary to perform their specific functions.

  • Google Sign-In: If you choose to sign in with Google, Google provides us with your name, email address, and profile picture for authentication purposes.
  • Google AdMob: Provides non-personalized advertisements within the App. AdMob may collect device identifiers for ad delivery and fraud prevention. We have configured AdMob to serve only non-personalized ads.
  • Supabase: Securely stores user-uploaded images (profile pictures and post images) in cloud storage.
  • Neon (PostgreSQL): Hosts our database infrastructure where account and content data is stored securely.
  • Resend: Delivers transactional emails such as account verification and password reset messages.
  • Expo Push Notifications: Delivers push notifications to your device. We store your Expo push token to enable this functionality.

We do not sell your personal data. We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

Data Retention and Deletion

Ephemeral Content

Posts, along with their associated comments and votes, are automatically and permanently deleted 24 hours after creation. This is a core feature of AskWingman. Content is designed to be temporary.

Session Data

Session tokens expire after a maximum of 400 days. Sessions are refreshed during active use and can be terminated at any time by signing out.

Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time. When you delete your account:

  • Your profile information (username, display name, bio, avatar, preferences) is permanently deleted
  • Your active sessions are terminated
  • Your push notification tokens are removed
  • Any remaining posts, comments, and votes are deleted
  • Your block list and report history are removed

To request account deletion:

  • In the App: go to Settings and select Delete Account
  • By email: contact support@walkwithmekinetik.life with the subject line “Account Deletion Request”

Data Security

We take the security of your data seriously and implement the following measures:

  • All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections
  • Passwords are securely hashed using industry-standard algorithms and are never stored in plain text
  • Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device
  • Our database and file storage are hosted on secure cloud infrastructure with access controls
  • Images are compressed before upload and stored in secure cloud storage

While we implement reasonable security measures, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.

Children's Privacy

AskWingman is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We require date of birth verification during account creation and do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@walkwithmekinetik.life and we will promptly delete the information and terminate the account.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information:

All Users

  • Access: You can view your profile information at any time within the App
  • Correction: You can update your profile information at any time through your account settings
  • Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data as described in the Data Retention and Deletion section
  • Notification control: You can manage your notification preferences within the App

European Union Residents (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Union, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation:

  • Right to access your personal data
  • Right to rectification of inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”)
  • Right to restrict processing
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to object to processing
  • Right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

We process your data under the following legal bases: performance of contract (providing our services), legitimate interest (community safety and fraud prevention), and consent (where applicable).

California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:

  • Right to know what personal information is collected, used, and shared
  • Right to delete your personal information
  • Right to opt-out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell your data)
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

Advertising

AskWingman displays advertisements through Google AdMob to support the free operation of the App. We have configured AdMob to serve only non-personalized ads, which means:

  • Ads are not targeted based on your personal data, interests, or browsing behavior
  • Ads may use contextual information (such as general device type) but not your profile or activity data
  • Google AdMob may collect device identifiers for ad delivery, frequency capping, and fraud prevention as described in Google's Privacy Policy

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes:

  • We will update the “Effective Date” at the top of this page
  • For significant changes, we will notify you through the App or by email
  • Your continued use of AskWingman after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy
